On a forex card, the rate is the small part

Issuance, reload, the cross-currency markup when you spend off-currency, and ATM fees usually dwarf the gap between bank load rates. For regular or business travel, the right setup, and a proper wire for larger sums, can cost a lot less. Capera works out what fits your spend.

Indicative. The load figure uses each bank's published card rate; fees shown are typical ranges and vary by issuer. Only banks quoting within a day of each other are compared. Confirm the full cost with the issuer before loading.

Common questions

How is a forex card's cost made up?

Two parts: the rate at which your rupees convert into the loaded currency, and the fees, issuance, reload, a cross-currency markup when you spend in a currency you did not load, and ATM withdrawal charges. The fees often outweigh the rate.

Forex card or a bank wire?

For business payments and larger sums, a wire transfer is usually cheaper. A forex card suits travel spending, where you want a locked rate and a card to swipe. Compare both before you decide.

What is the cross-currency markup?

If you load US dollars but spend in euros, the card converts at the point of sale and adds a markup, commonly around 3.5%. Loading the currency you will actually spend avoids it.
